Spots to see in West Virginia

Mountaineer Brand-Spots to see in West Virginia

Aurie Cline |

Wild, Wonderful West Virginia, the state that Mountaineer Brand employees call home. Our beautiful, mountainous homestead is filled with lots of secrets, including a little place in the eastern panhandle where we are tucked away handcrafting the all natural products we send your way. While our area may not be much of a sight for sore eyes, there are many places in this beautiful state that we think may be worth your while to see if you're ever in the area. We've picked our favorites and listed them below.

Harpers Ferry

One of my personal favorite spots in WV. Every summer, I go to Harpers Ferry to hike to the top of Maryland Heights, a brutal but beautiful trail with a view equivalent to the one that is pictured above. There are less grueling hiking trails for the whole family to enjoy, as well as many biking trails for the avid cyclist. Harpers Ferry also offers haunted ghost tours, which are perfect for the Civil War enthusiast. The best part of all? White water rafting in the rapids of the Shenandoah or taking a lazy float down the Potomac.

New River Gorge

A perfect place to visit, especially in the fall, New River Gorge in Glen Jean, WV is a 70,000 acre scenic goldmine. It offers hiking on beautiful, winding trails where you can see wildlife and hidden waterfalls while being surrounding by the gorgeous Appalachian mountains. Every third Sunday in October, Fayette County holds it's annual "Bridge Day", where daring individuals BASE jump from the 1,700 ft arch of the world's 3rd longest single-span arch bridge. Definitely a must see if you're ever in the area!

 Canaan Valley Resort State Park

Canaan Valley Resort is tucked away in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia and is a hot spot for avid skiers and wildlife lovers. In fact, Canaan Valley was the first commercial ski resort in West Virginia, opening in 1971. The resort has come a long way, only increasing in it's beauty and abundance of family activities. It features a 160 room lodge, several cottages and cabins, as well as a number of camp sites. Don't forget the golfing! The Valley offers a beautiful 18 hole golf course that the whole family can enjoy. Nearby to Canaan Valley is Davis, WV where you can find great biking and hiking trails, shopping, and Blackwater Falls State Park.

Dolly Sods

In my opinion, Dolly Sods is one of West Virginia's best kept secrets. This has been the home of our family cabin for over fifty years. We have all enjoyed many adventures, laughs and memories in this gorgeous town. If you find peace in the sounds of chirping birds and babbling brooks, this is the perfect place for you. It's a great opportunity to step away from our technology reliant world and enjoy the gifts the nature has to offer. Plus, the fishing is great!
